The Redmagic 6R (model NX666J) is a slim and powerful gaming smartphone that packs flagship performance into a sleek, mainstream design. It delivers an incredible gaming experience with its super-smooth 144Hz AMOLED display, pressure-sensitive 400Hz shoulder triggers, and the potent Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 5G chipset. Unlike its larger siblings, the 6R forgoes the built-in fan for a thinner and lighter profile, making it a great choice for both gaming and daily use. For users who are not receiving automatic updates or who wish to manually install a specific software version, this page provides a comprehensive collection of official OTA (Over-The-Air) update packages for all major regions.
Important: These are OTA update files, not full unbrick packages. They are meant for updating a functioning phone. You must flash the correct firmware for your device’s region, and it is highly recommended to install updates sequentially. Flashing the wrong region’s OTA will cause the update to fail.

How to Manually Install OTA Updates
There are two methods to install these updates. The Local Update method is the easiest. Warning: OTA updates should be installed sequentially. Do not try to jump from a very old version to the latest one. Apply the correct region’s updates in order.
Method 1: Local Update (Easiest Method)
- Download the correct OTA
.zip
file for your region. Do not extract it. - Connect your phone to your PC and transfer the downloaded
.zip
file to the root directory of your phone’s internal storage (not inside any folders). - On your phone, navigate to Settings → System → System update.
- Tap the gear icon in the top-right corner and select Local update.
- The phone will scan your storage and find the update package. Tap on it to begin the installation.
Method 2: ADB Sideload (Advanced Method)
- Download and set up the ADB Platform-Tools on your PC.
- Download the OTA
.zip
file and place it in your ADB folder. Rename it to something simple, likeupdate.zip
. - Reboot your Redmagic 6R into recovery mode (Power off, then hold Power + Volume Up).
- Navigate to Apply update from ADB and select it with the power button.
- Connect your phone to the PC. In a command prompt in the ADB folder, type
adb devices
to ensure it’s connected. - Type the command:
adb sideload update.zip
and press Enter.
Device-Specific Troubleshooting for Redmagic 6R OTA Updates
- “Update Verification Failed” Error: This is the most common error and it means you are using the wrong file. Check two things:
- Region: You cannot flash a Europe OTA on a Global model, or a China OTA on a Global phone. The region must match your device.
- Version: You often cannot skip updates. If you are on an early V2.xx build, you may need to install all intermediate V2.xx updates before you can install a much later version.
- This is NOT an Unbrick File: OTA
.zip
files are for updating a working phone only. If your phone is hard-bricked (won’t turn on), you need a different type of firmware (an EDL programmer file) and a different flashing method (QFIL). These files will not fix a dead device. - Overheating: The Redmagic 6R does not have the built-in fan of its Pro siblings. While it has a vapor chamber, it can get hot during sustained gaming. Software updates often include thermal management improvements. If you experience excessive heat, ensure you are on the latest possible software version for your region.
- Shoulder Trigger Issues: If your shoulder triggers feel unresponsive or buggy after an update, first try restarting the phone. Then, go into the Game Space settings and recalibrate the triggers. Sometimes a new update resets these custom settings.
FAQs
Q1. What is an OTA file? Can I use it to unbrick my phone? An OTA (Over-The-Air) file is an update package designed to upgrade a working phone from one software version to another. It is not a full firmware package and cannot be used to unbrick a dead or unresponsive phone.
Q2. Do I need to unlock my bootloader to install these updates? No. These are official, signed OTA packages. They can be installed on a device with a locked bootloader using either the Local Update or ADB Sideload method.
Q3. Will this erase my data? No, a standard OTA update does not wipe user data. However, it is always highly recommended to back up your important data before any major software installation.
