Xiaomi Redmi 4 Firmware Flash File Download [Stock Rom]

The Xiaomi Redmi 4 (codename prada), launched in 2016, was the standard edition in a popular but often confusing lineup. This model delivered a premium experience for its class, featuring a durable metal body, a fast rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, and a large 4100 mAh battery. It was powered by the reliable Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 chipset, offering a smooth experience in a compact 5-inch form factor. For owners of this specific variant, this page provides the official fastboot ROMs for China and Global, the community-driven Xiaomi.eu custom ROM, and the TWRP recovery for advanced modifications.

Important: The Redmi 4 series is extremely confusing. This guide is ONLY for the Redmi 4 Standard (prada), which has a Snapdragon 430 processor and a 720p HD screen. Do NOT flash this on a Redmi 4 Prime (markw), Redmi 4A (rolex), or Redmi 4X (santoni). Flashing the wrong firmware will hard brick your phone.

How to Install TWRP & Flash Custom ROMs

Use this method to install the Xiaomi.eu custom ROM or other community-developed ROMs.

What is TWRP? TWRP (Team Win Recovery Project) is a powerful custom recovery that replaces your phone’s limited stock recovery. It is the essential tool that allows you to install custom software (.zip files), create full backups of your system (a “Nandroid”), and perform other advanced maintenance. The official ROMs on this page do not require TWRP.

Disclaimer: This is an advanced process. Proceed at your own risk.

  1. Unlock the Bootloader: This is a mandatory first step. Use the official Mi Unlock Tool.
  2. Flash TWRP:
    • Boot your phone into Fastboot mode (Power + Volume Down) and connect it to your PC.
    • Using ADB & Fastboot tools on your PC, flash the downloaded twrp-3.7.1_12-0-mi8937.img file with the command:
      fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.7.1_12-0-mi8937.img
  3. Boot into TWRP: After flashing, immediately boot into recovery by holding Power + Volume Up.
  4. Install Custom ROM:
    • In TWRP, it’s recommended to first go to “Wipe” and perform a Factory Reset.
    • Transfer the Xiaomi.eu .zip ROM file to your phone’s storage.
    • In TWRP, tap “Install,” select the .zip file, and swipe to confirm the flash.
    • Reboot your system once complete.

Device-Specific Troubleshooting for Redmi 4 (prada)

The Redmi 4 series has many variants. These tips are specific to the prada model.

  • The #1 Cause of Bricks – Model Confusion: Before flashing, confirm your device has a Snapdragon 430 CPU and a 720p HD screen. Flashing a ROM for the Redmi 4 Prime (markw, Snapdragon 625, 1080p screen) or Redmi 4X (santoni, Snapdragon 435) will cause a hard brick due to hardware differences.
  • Hard Brick Recovery (EDL Mode): If your phone is completely unresponsive (hard bricked) after a failed flash, the only way to recover it is via EDL Mode (Qualcomm 9008). This requires opening the phone’s back cover and shorting two specific test points on the motherboard while connecting it to a PC to force Mi Flash Tool to detect it.
  • Performance on MIUI 10: The final official MIUI 10 update can feel heavy on the device’s 2GB of RAM. If you experience lag, clearing the cache or performing a factory reset can help. For a smoother experience, many users explore lighter custom ROMs.
  • Overheating: The metal body of the Redmi 4 can get noticeably warm during prolonged gaming sessions or while charging. This is generally considered normal for this model, but you should avoid using the phone for heavy tasks while it is charging.

FAQs

Q1. How do I know if I have the Redmi 4 prada? The prada is the Standard version. Check your device’s settings under “About phone.” It should list the processor as Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 and have a 720p (HD) screen resolution. Do not confuse it with the Redmi 4 Prime (markw) which has a Snapdragon 625 and 1080p screen, or the Redmi 4A (rolex) which has no fingerprint scanner.

Q2. What was the final official update for the Redmi 4 (prada)? The device launched with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow and did not receive an official major Android OS upgrade. The MIUI 10 builds provided on this page are the last official software updates released for this model.

Q3. Why does the TWRP link have a different name (mi8937)? This is a unified TWRP build. The Snapdragon 430 chipset’s technical name is MSM8937. The recovery is built for the general chipset family, making it compatible with the Redmi 4 (prada) and other devices that use the same processor.
