The Redmi 8A (codename olivelite), released in 2019, was a powerhouse in the budget smartphone market. It stood out by offering features usually found in more expensive devices, such as a massive 5000 mAh battery, support for 18W fast charging, and a modern USB Type-C port. Its durable “Aura Wave Grip” design also made it a fan favorite. If your device is suffering from software issues, is stuck in a bootloop, or you simply wish to return to the official stock MIUI, this guide is for you. We provide official fastboot ROMs for China, Global, India, Indonesia, and more, along with a popular Xiaomi.eu custom ROM.
Important: Before you begin, please confirm your device codename is olivelite. This firmware is for the Redmi 8A and 8A Dual. It is not compatible with the standard Redmi 8 (olive). Flashing the incorrect ROM will brick your phone.

FAQs
Q1. What is the difference between the Redmi 8A and the Redmi 8A Dual?
Both devices share the same codename (olivelite) and use the same firmware. The primary hardware difference is the camera: the Redmi 8A Dual has a dual rear camera (13MP + 2MP), while the standard Redmi 8A has a single 12MP camera.
Q2. Can I flash a Redmi 8 (olive) ROM on my Redmi 8A?
No. The Redmi 8 (olive) is a different device with different hardware, including a fingerprint scanner which the Redmi 8A lacks. Using its firmware on an olivelite device will cause a hard brick.
Q3. Why is the latest Android version only Android 10?
The Redmi 8A was an entry-level device that launched with Android 9. It received one major OS upgrade to Android 10, which is standard for its category. It continued to receive MIUI 12.5 security and feature updates on top of the Android 10 base.
Q4. The Xiaomi.eu ROM is a .zip file. How do I install it?
The .zip file is designed for custom recovery. You cannot flash it with Mi Flash Tool. You must first install a custom recovery like TWRP and then flash the .zip file through that recovery. Do not relock the bootloader after flashing a custom ROM.
Troubleshooting
- Drivers: If your PC does not recognize the device in fastboot mode, reinstall the Xiaomi USB drivers. Running the Mi Flash Tool as an administrator can also help.
- Fastboot errors:
- “error: not catch checkpoint” → This common error means you have selected the wrong folder. In Mi Flash Tool, select the main extracted folder, not the images sub-folder.
- “Anti rollback error” → You are attempting to flash an older firmware version with a lower anti-rollback index. Xiaomi’s security prevents this to protect the device.
- EDL mode: For a completely bricked device that won’t enter fastboot, EDL mode is the last resort. It requires using hardware test points and an authorized Mi Account, and is not recommended for novice users.
